Red wine D.O. Rioja (95% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano, 2% Viura skins)
Created in memory of the daughter of Fernando Remírez, this Reserva red keeps a strong solidarity background, since the total amount of its sales is destined to charities that vary in each vintage. The most recent have been for the Spanish Association against cancer and the Dawn Syndrome Foundation. Exclusive production to 958 bottles. The grapes come from the Finca Viña Coqueta, whose vineyards located on the slope at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level with a south orientation. The average age of these vineyards is 60 years, with very low yields. Manual harvest in a 12 kg box. Controlled temperature prior to fermentation in cold rooms specially designed for a period of 24 hours (between 4 and 6 ºC). Selection of grapes on the table and separation of shoulders and ends, choosing only for the preparation the destemmed shoulders. Alcoholic fermentation in a French oak vat. Malolactic in new barrel. It ages for 38 months in new French oak barrels. A selection of barrels from Viña Coqueta were combined with others selected from among the best in the winery.
It has a beautiful cherry black color with violet trim. On the nose, it stands out for its finesse and complexity, with notes of ripe fruit, smoked and toasted. In the mouth we find a wine, Complex, fleshy and sweet. A wine with persistence and a lot of personality, like Fernando’s daughter, María.
Remirez de Ganuza Cellars. It may be one of the most reputable wineries in La Rioja. We are talking about one of the greatest experts in vineyards in all of La Rioja. His practical sense, together with his deep knowledge of the Riojan vineyard, have made him a winemaker obsessed with quality, whose main principle is to emphasize the age of the vineyard and the pedigree of the vine.
He was one of the first to depart from the established fees, designing and using his own machinery to make his wines: Trasnocho, Reserva Remírez de Ganuza, Erre Punto…
A new project to undertake, «New Crib», with its three children at the helm. A new winery with a new wine to include in the family’s CV. But fate changed the course of this initiative, a traffic accident, truncated everyone’s hopes and expectations, Maria was no longer there. But Fernando in his immense humanity has managed to create a unique memory that makes us feel special to all of us who have or will have the privilege of feeling all the emotions that this wine transmits to us. Thanks Fernando, thanks Maria.
